Six Nations Clash Illuminates the Night Sky: Belgium's Fireworks Unveil a New Chapter of the Silk Road

Nov 03, 2025

On the evening of October 25, the Liuyang Sky Theatre sparkled with starlight as the Sixth Liuyang Fireworks Competition (LFC)—a core event of the 17th Liuyang Fireworks Festival—unfolded in spectacular fashion. Top fireworks teams from six nations competed on the same stage. The Belgian team, closing the show with their performance themed “Silk Road Reignited,” delivered the most moving cultural highlight of the night, offering a spectacular audiovisual feast for global audiences.

Centered on the theme “A Light-Year Promise,” this year's festival aimed to establish the fireworks competition as the “Oscars of pyrotechnics.” Six elite teams were selected through a global call for entries. Using the sky as their canvas and gunpowder as their brush, each team showcased the boundless possibilities of pyrotechnic art through diverse creative interpretations.

The Belgian team's closing performance exemplified cultural fusion. Centered on the ancient Silk Road's spirit, their layered pyrotechnic designs recreated the grand panorama of millennia-long East-West dialogue across the night sky. This seamless blend of traditional Silk Road culture and modern pyrotechnic technology earned prolonged applause from the audience. Ultimately, Belgium shared the top honors with Slovenia and the United States.

The head of Liuyang City's Firecracker and Fireworks Industry Development Center stated that this event not only showcased the pinnacle of international pyrotechnic artistry but also established a platform for cultural exchange. As the “Hometown of Chinese Fireworks,” Liuyang will continue to leverage festivals as a bridge to promote the global prosperity and development of pyrotechnic art.
